Hi,

Finally I got some corydoras arcuatus. They are very rare to find in my country (Portugal), but a store finally has imported some.

They are very young and thin. It seems that they only have head.
I have put them alone in a 50ltr tank with white sand and a biofilter. I have them for a few days and the problem is that I am not been able to put them to eat. I tried artemia, flakes, morcels, microworms, whiteworms and red larvae. Nothing works.

The question is, what can I do to make them eat before they pass way?

You may want to have a look at the post at the top of the forum entitled something like "Are you posting about health problems?", and copy the content of that post into a reply here, with the answers to the questions filled in as best you can.

Ok, sorryâ?¦ this is not really a disease problem. But here it goes.

1. Water parameters
a) 25ºC â?? 26ºC
b) 7.2 pH.
c) 6.72 GH.
d) 2.8 KH
e) 0 Ammonia, 5 Nitrate, 0 Nitrite
f) WC every other day 25%

2. Tank set up
a) 60cmx23cmx40cm (55l)
b) white sand. 2cm.
c) 2227 with a reduced caudal.
d) no furnishings.
e) no tank mates.
f) the tank is set-up for a couple of months

A few drops of eSha Optima.

Perhaps we're splitting hair here, but I would say "fish not eating normal diet" is definitely a "health problem". May not be classified as a disease, but it's definitely a health-problem.

Either way, we now have some data to work on:
temps are fine, so is the pH/KH/GH and nitrogen compounds.

You don't say anything about the number of fish you have, but you should be OK to have quite a few in a 55l tank.

Are the fish at all active?

Sorry, there are 10 specimens.

Hmm. Ok, so it sounds to me like they are trying to eat. Is the food you're giving them pretty small particles? If not, try to grind it down a bit. Someone else suggested using a pepper mill (wooden, metal or plastic thing that people have on their dining table) to grind Tetra Bits/Prima to smaller size.

If they are small, it may well be that they don't cope well with large morsels of food. Corys generally don't have very large mouths.

I think I give them small enough particles, but I will try to grind them down a little bit more.
