Hi!
I haven't kept them but I keep P. dumus!
They seems to prefer softwater but can live in water a little bit harder.
The prefer also living in tanks with very fast current!
Regarding feeding, my dumus basically eat anything, flakes, pellets, tablets, bloodworms... really not hard to feed
But they are not the most competitive when it comes to eating...
Cheers

They are typical upper Orinoco fish. As Yann pointed out, very clean, soft, slightly acidic water with high O2 levels. The water should also be on the warmer side at 80-82F. Decor should be large rounded stones over sand. In the area they come from the stones are almost black (basalt) and the sand is light colored with a slight reddish tinge.
I strongly agree that they are poor competitors for food.
