so i got a new catfish for you to give an ID on, its of a friend and was sold as an peckoltia vitattus
(which obviously should be vitatta) and its not an L080. I checked
i thought it is somesort of a peckoltia but a friend thinks is a sort of panaque,
so here are the pics, what do you all think?

ok tnx for the ID, and yeah its a blind one, lost both of his eyes. at least its taken care of properly, enough wood for him to chew on, same wood as i give my nigro's. and it the only pl*co in the tank, zo now fighting over the food.
tnx again on the ID, i can't be right all the time

Blind plecos often have different colours than the seeing ones, since the blind ones can't "see" if it's light or dark, so they loose their "daytime/nighttime" colouration...

Just out of curiosity... what happened to it? Apart from the missing eyes it's got scars like it's been captured in a gillnet...

hello everybody... I'm the owner of this fish. Yesterday when OEOTS asked me if he could put my question here I thought good idea... this night I figured I'd even better made myself a member ;)
thanks for the help so far. I'm a beginner in the aquarium business and sometimes do stupid things.
So with the buying of this panaque. I was looking in the shop and seeing this catfish almost the color of the sand... very special I thought... ones in my tank it was very quickly clear the poor thing had been completely overstressed... even only a few ours later he was already darkening. So what has happened to him... no idea, I just hope I'll be able to give him the proper care.
another question... I saw that yams are some favorite food, I'm not familiar with it, I know I can get it here, but do I have to cook it before giving?

don't feed too much protein.
The Clownpleco is a woodeater and a grazer. it can have stuff like shrimp-pieces or mussels, but most of its' diet should be vegetarian.
and bogwood is a MUST for this one to keep it healthy in the long run.
It's easy to take care for; a slice of weightdown cucumber, peas (frozen and thawed, not the tincan kind), pleco-tabs, spinache (also frozen and thawed), softleafed plants (P maccus loves to eat Echinodorus) and the occasional piece of unpeeled shrimp, bloodworm etc will keep it healthy.

Sidguppy has given some pretty good advice. For more details on how to prepare and use "supermarket" foods for Plecos in general, and herbivore/woodeater, look at my article (listed at the bottom of this post as "articles(1)").

I feed mine yams (zoete aardappel
) raw. Most of my pleco's like it, but my maccus's love it! You can cook it shortly, but these guys can chew bits off a raw piece just fine.
