Did you look in the Cat-eLog. I'm 100% sure that all of them have size listed.
Which is most common probably depends on which wholesale/exporter is involved in getting them to your area... My LFS tends to have L177 when they have any, but others I've also seen at least one of the other variants...

The L018 gets 355mm
The L081 gets 180mm
But the L177 is not size listed :?:
Do you know the maximum size of it ??

I don't know it off the top of my head, but I think it's around 250 mm - that's just a guess tho'. If I remember I'll check my Aqualog when I get home and see...

my tank is 120 cm. long.
i think i can only keep a L081 the other ones get to large.

Well, we've had discussions before here on PC that ended with "No one really knows how big these grow". On the other hand, they tend to grow fairly slowly in aquariums, so it's not goint to outgrow your tank in the short term, whichever variation you get. [They are most likely to be the same species, just different geographical variants, but that doesn't mean that all variants grow to the same size!].

I don't think they are a BAD choice, lets put it that way...
By the way, all Gold Nuggets in Aqualog are listed as 30 cm, with no differentiation for different species...
As I've mentioned earlier, I've got two. They are currently in separate tanks, and the smaller one in a far too small tank. This is because it wasn't getting enough food in the big tank, competing with a slightly larger conspecific, and severa other smaller but more outgoing plecos (bristlenoses and ). Either of these fish have not grown noticably in more than a year that I've had them. Part of this is probably caused by the fact that they aren't getting sufficient food when competing with other fish in the tank, since they are fairly shy.

Wels Atlas II gives 30cm for L018 and L081, but 25cm for L177.
Either way the fish should be fine in your tank for 5+ years.
It will need a bigger tank eventually though.

According to the book I have, L081 has two sub species - Special I and II. Although questionable, they feel the size would be 15 - 20 cm's.
