My DBN loves malaysain, and I like the way it looks. If you are planning on going to the ACA convention in Arlington Heights, you should definately check out Ted Judy. He has some great Malaysian pieces that he will be bringing.

In my experience, bristlenoses aren't particularly picky with what wood you have in the tank, and they seem to be perfectly OK in a tank without wood too...

Almost any wood will eventually be waterlogged enough to sink, it's just a case of "how long does it take"... I have several different kinds of wood (cherry and some "vine" that didn't come from an aquatic shop, and some Mopani African) in my tanks, and besides being nicer to look at (each type of wood has it's own particular colour), it makes for a wider variety for the fish, in case they like one kind better than another.

Panaque maccus seems to also eat bamboo for example.

If you don't mind having different kinds of wood, put in many different kinds, let the fish decide what they like. You have a cool looking tank and the fish a happy, good tasting home ;-)
