I recently purchased my Shoutendi,if my spelling sucks please forgive me.What I have seem is interesting is the behaviour with my Shoutendi is the yo-yo loach. The loach will hug up to the syno and swim side by side with him and this is done for quite a period of time and seems to really agrivate the syno,I do not see any sign of marks or stress signs but I wonder if this is a selective thing,he seems to do this only with this one fish.Does this mean that I have to get rid of the loaches.I like the loaches and it would be ok if UI could keep them but this Syno is SO cool,it will be no contest. What do you think!

Loaches are exercizing their territorial imperative. Qne way to lessen or shorten the intensity and duration is the old trick of rearranging the landscape during a water change to refocus the loaches' attention and allow for the catfish to find it's own territory from which it can be dominant in the immediate vicinity.

I have 5 yoyo's. Have 'em for nearly ten years now!

They are extremely playful and every now and then they show the behaviour you describe. In my case it has never hurt the other fish. The loaches always quit when the other fish quiets down.

Never figured out why they do it. It seems more playful than aggresion.

But what apistomater says, seems plausible.

btw if you do want to split them, id say lose the syno (don't know if i can say that here ;-) )
