How interchangeable are L-190 and L-090

Post by RogerMcAllen »

I have recently been looking for an L-190 Royal plec, and every time (it has happend three times) I think I found one, the seller at the last minute realizes that the fish is in fact L-090.

Are there any differences between the species, or is the L-090 a variant with the long trailing cuadal fins?

There are a lot of varieties named after their place of origin--you can see some by clicking on --but as far as I know they're all considered to be the same species. The L-numbers aren't definitive, they're an ad hoc solution to the problem of a lot of plecos being available in the hobby without being described in the scientific sense.

Hi Roger to my knowledge the differencees between these two fishes other than the long tail which you have mentioned is the eyes. L090 as compared to other panaque sp have smaller eyes.
