Hello i got a couple of catfish, but i dont really know what kind they are, i have asked around on our danish forums, but it didnt really help that much.

So i am really hoping that you can help me out.

IMO, I own an inspector amd his eyes seem to be much larger than the pleco in the above pics. Also mine has spots that are yellow, not as frequent and larger.

Hi , I could be wrong but your fish is a fish I think I get from Peru ..The exporter calls it L204a
How big is it..
Inspector is a small fish .
This will help the ID ?
If you can find the country it is from even better >

I think he is Panaque Albomaculatus
The fish is not the right shape for the Inspector.

A picture of the mouth so we can see the teeth would settle it. If that's not possible, it's behaviour might give a clue. If it spends a lot of time chewing wood it's most likely the Panaque. What happens when you feed it vegetables? Does it demolish them ovenight (Panaque) or hardly touch them (Hypancistrus)?

Panaque has a good point ..Take a shot of his teeth ..
I know it is a bit confuseing with this Latin name ..
Panque Albo (white) maculatus(spotted) ..
Hypancistrus inspector does not get orange spots ?
Here is a picture of the panaque albomaculatus in Peru last year .
I think this genus needs a good looking at ..
I dont want the job !!!

It's a Hypancistrus inspector you have, their spots can vary from white to yellow and even orange and that change with mood and the environment. The headshape and the bigger eyes belongs to a Hypancistrus and not a Panaque

I know, but the first pictures shows H. inspector and they are very variable in their spots from small and few to big and many from white to yellow and orange on their heads.

Her pleco looks too big to be an inpector, to my knowledge they only get 4 inches.

Make that 5" standard length, and add another inch of tail and you get a fish that is about 6" in total length.

I suspect, however, that being Hypancistrus, they don't reach that size until they are a fair few years old...

I have seen H.inspector with orange/gold/yellow/white spots of all sizes and patterns in the same batch.

I would agree that the first fish is H.inspector.

The easiest way to differentiate P.albomaculatus from H.inspector is the presence of a lyrate tail with filaments in P.albomaculatus.

Can't see from the pics though.

I think yours in a much younger fish HylaChristine, and so the eyes do tend to look proportionally larger.
