A friend of mine has a breeding pair of angels in a 55 gallon tank, that is all that is in it. I let him borrow my Aqualog all L#, so he could look at it, now he wants to add an L-200 and a L-007 in with the angels. I told him that I did not think that would be a good idea. I am wanting to get your thoughts on this so that I can show him.

Not sure why put my angels and loricards have always hated each other. Loricards eat angel eggs, angels bother the loricards non-stop usually hovering overhead, shaking their heads and clicking and picking at the loricard untill it goes bonkers and attacks. Not sure if these species encounter each other in the wild but is seems a classic bird-snake relationship, one is an egg eater and the other one knows it.

I doubt that the angels would harm the catfish, they may be able to give it a nibble, but probably wouldn't do any real damage. Even when breeding.
Its highly likely that the catfish would eat any eggs the angels produce, at night when they can't defend the area.

I've got three plecs (Gibby, ancistrus and Royal) in with angels, never had a problem. Why do you think it's a bad idea?

IMO,
If there is plenty of cover for the plec to hide then it
may be okay (I have some in with my breeding angels)... I still hesitate at keeping them together however because whenever the angels have a batch of eggs/fry they get absolutely viscous and if they see the plec in sight they attack it and peck at it until it hides. It would appear that the angels have extremely good eyesight as the plec may be at the other end of the tank and the angel fish will torpedo dive bomb the pleco as soon as it comes into sight. For this reason I have added plenty of caves, driftwood and slate (more so than I consider normal) to ensure the plecs can hide quickly... but I still wonder if that is anyway for them to have to live. Honestly I'll probably move them as the plecs get older.
With angels in general in my other tanks (non-breeding) it hasn't been a problem at all... So if you decide to add one to your breeding tank, just keep an eye on them and have lots of cover!
KathyM, are your angels breeding?
