New light on things...

I changed the flourescent tubes on my tank the other day - Wow!

Since the process is gradual, it's hard to realize how much less light the old tubes give until you plug in a set of new ones. The ones I had in there was the original ones, from December 2004, so about 18 months old...

I guess there's a reason why they recommend that they are changed every 6-12 months... ;-)

It's quite amazing, the difference.

I'm keeping my old tubes to use around the house. But I've such a backlog now, as the damn things can last years, before they pop.

I came across a circuit recently. Or perhaps I should say, I came across a method of "rewiring" the Ballast to the Tubes, that supposedly boosts the light output to over 150%. Heat output is up too, of course.

Has anyone come across that ? Have any thoughts ?

And is getting those Amazon Swords going, really worth a visit from the Fire Brigade ?
