Hi all, l am Australian based and have just bred L201 Hypan. Inspector, l have been told that these fish are quite common to breed yet l can find very little evidence on the net. (l might just be searching in all the wrong sites ) has anyone here bred them or know someone that has as l have a few questions.

How many fry are they getting in each spawn?
l have 7 or 8 fry from this the first spawn.

What have they been feeding the fry?
l am feeding Wardleys flake food

How often are they spawning?
The fry left the cave 4 days ago and another female is already hanging around the males cave...thats not to say she will enter


There is another guy here in Austtralia that has breed them also and we are compairing notes currently

I have got between 9-15 fry in each spawn so far but my females are quite small, around 7 cm so I think they could give more when they grow bigger. I feed the fry crushed tablet food (JBL Novo tabs) and after a month or so I even give them frozen Cyclops. The female are ready to spawn again after ~30 days if everything are fine but if there are several females will the male try to breed with them first if they are pregnant.

l can't believe how big they are when they leave the cave, they are the size of a two week old peppermint if not bigger, Thank you for the reply

l did my first water change on that tank last night since l first saw they had spawned.
The fry are now just under 2cm (love it when they hang on the glass in front of you), there had been a plump female hanging outside the males cave for days now and l noticed last night she was gone, Bugger! never mind l thought, l went back to reading my book while the tank filled then out of the corner of my eye l saw two tails hanging out of the males cave, yep it looked like that plump female was in the males cave the whole time l was doing the water change, heres hoping she is in there of other reasons than she was just looking for a place to hide as the lights came on
