A bonus from the "spotted cory" tank

I find some of the most interesting things in tanks marked "spotted corys" and "julii".

Tonight I found a tank with fifteen mixed corys, a few trilineatus, one schwartzi and two species I have never seen before. I bought the whole tank as I could not bear the thought of them trying the catch, and beat up, the 8 or 10 I wanted.

So what did I find?

My three first guesses are:
  • a very plain varient of the "laser" corys

    C89

    C. aeneus (schultzei) is close, but there is no green tint excect for the metallic green seen with the flash.

I came across these guys in a tank of 'spotted cories' too. I got them at a Petsmart  - there were only 3 however, and all female. Too bad, because they are a nice species.

They are supposedly a new species in the 'elegans group' (I think from Peru). Ian Fuller has supposedly bred them, but other than that I haven't heard much about them.

This would be the "gold line elegans" wich I personally would very much like to get my hands on...seriously doubt that will ever happen in Denmark...

These fish belong to the so called "elegans" group and originate from Colombia. The are relatively easy to breed, well mine are. I have seven or eight in a mixed tank along with six or seven other species and it is in this communal tank that they spawn. None of the other species in the tank seem bothered and I just harvest the eggs. The pictures show the difference between male and female and the colour pattern changes the fry go through.

These fish finally spawned for me. Is the consensus that they are still "C. sp cf elegans (gold line)". Are there any other online pictures or other info of them?

Congrats on the spawning :)

Ian has given them a number; CW-008 (CW is for CorydorasWorld).
