Oh No!

Just come back off holiday to find my 14 year old Goldfish lying on its side slowly breathing! There is no sign of illness and she keeps swimming upside down and doing roly-polyâ??s down the tank, and getting stuck behind things, I have done a 20% water change and dropped the water level below the outlet of my filter so the aeration is much improved (if not noisy) the catfish seems ok though!)

I have recently finished treating for finrot, but the GF fell ill on day 5 of the treatment?

There's a sticky at the top of the page in the Lori. forum that has a list of questions we ask for you to fill in the blanks in order to help with "HELP MY FISH IS SICK!" type posts. That way we aren't guessing and you might get information that will actually help your fish. Most meds are very detrimental to water quality. I'd recommend a few more partial water changes in the coming hours, after you run tests so you can tell us what else could possibly be the issue. Sorry I can't be more help!

As said before by all kinds of people: your tank can't get balanced with this population. You'll go from one disease to the other. A few weeks ago you told us the Goldfish was going out. A wise decision, because it's way too large and it really doesn't belong in a tropical tank.
To my surprise it's still in. The question is for how long, as your description above reminds me of a dying goldfish. Which is a shame, as the animal is 14 years old and has been with you for quite a long time.
But in order to make your fish happy you must take some decisions. Preferably soon.
Best of luck.

Yeah the goldfish was going to be taken out but my bonus i was getting to pay for the new tank never came so i was stuck.

This came on within 3 days.

At the moment she swims up and then dose a side loop and ends up in the same place, she cant swim, or eat, i have tested the water and there is nothing wrong, i took a sample to my LFS and they have confirmed that the water quality is perfect, Ammonia, NO2, NO3, PH, KH, Temp the lot.

I think it might be old age as the fish was mistreated for 9 years at my girlfriends were it was left alone in a tiny tank, could old age be a factor as its been in the tropical tank for 3 years.

I am tanking it to my LFS as they said they want to see it and take a mucus sample.

Its very upsetting.

Just took the fish to the LFS and its had a scrape, and no parasites have been found, all water is perfect so i have been given some bacteria medication Myxazin so I am treating with that now

Fingers crossed

IH, did you make sure the previous medicin is completely out of your tank? Mixing of medicins (even unintentionally) may cause terrible disaster.
