Pseudoplatystoma tigrinum or Brachyplatystoma jurue

Post by Black Ghost »

I wanted to know your opinion about the choice of that two fishes. I explain my story: I were to a LFS' far from my home and I saw a Brachyplatystoma juruense, but I were thinking that it was a Brachyplatystoma tigrinum.

I were so sad because I found that the juruense is not looking good as the Brachyplatystoma tigrinum. At a LFS' near my home, they had a pseudoplatystoma tigrinum....more common, but very attractive.

So, did I kept the Brachyplatystoma juruense or change it for the pseudoplatystoma tigrinum?

the Brachyplatystoma juruense seems rare, but not as the Brachyplatystoma tigrinum.

What will be your choice?

You could keep both as long as you have a very big tank. They would get along okay.

Keep the juruense! I have kept juruense and some of them are stuuning I believe no less stunning than the tigrinis. Also Juruense are nowhere near as skittery as tigrinis. When they are really small it is hard to see if they are going to have distinct stripes but when you get a good one it is great watching them develop. Really unagressive predator as well. http://www-personal.umich.edu/~heokheen/manaus_2003.htm
Geck the above link and scroll down. Picture in manaus fish market no heads but you can see the body pattern.

Check this link to see a picture of one I had that died after severely burning himself on a heater.
If you do get one learn from my mistake and fit a heater guard or better still an external heater.
