brindled madtom

i have a 2.5 inch long brindled madtom.
(Ictaluridae :: Noturus miurus)

I caught it in the wild and have had it in a 10 gallon for about 6-8 months. my brother has several more in the 55 gallon tank. I was wondering if anyone knows any way to breed them or anything i should know about them or their habitat? i like to make the tank look as natural as possible to what the fish are use to. So i figured id ask you guys and see what your opinions on him and the habitat should be.

Ive got him a hidey hole but im thinking about completely upgrading all the stuff in the tank. Theres a wrecked ship that he hides in its dark colored but im thinkin about a cave maybe. Theres a cheap walmart cave in there im going to take out. its one of them bright multi colored $1.97 caves. its gotta go.

I have a sand bottom which he loves and im not getting rid of it and a potted plant which im still working on identifying. its a walmart special to so it was not named.

Any ideas? opinions? helpful info?

also how would i go about breeding them? i already checked the catelog but figured mayb the breeding is similiar to something else or maybe someone might have an idea.

anyone ever have one?

If you have an interest in these fish and native fish collecting try to get a hold of the book American Aquarium Fishes,it is listed in the books section above,it has a section on madtoms and a little advice on keeping these in aquaria.I just happen to be looking through my copy today and it is a great book.

Ill see if i can get my hands on that book.
sounds interesting but im always kinda picky about buyng books because i dont wanna waste my money if i dont already know its good.
looks like i already got one person who likes it so ill look into it

Your just in West Virginia. If you can't find anything out you ought to go to the Catfish Convention by DC. Surely you can talk to someone there who would have some knowledge to share with you. Someone even gave a good talk on them but I see nothing scheduled for them this year. I think they are having a collecting trip one of the days and the last time I think they caught some madtoms.

I second the book "American Aquarium Fishes", very interesting book that talks about breeding all kinds of NA natives. As for other information, there is not much out there but here is an article to start with.
