ok my brother has a catfish that is about 1.5 inches long and hes had it for about 2 years and hasnt grown any. its in a 55 gallon tank.
it has dark brown and tan camoflauge pattern on it kinda like the army camoflauge. and there are no spots of color in other colors if that makes sence.
hes very nocturnal and very hard to spot.
ive never seen another fish like it. the tan is bright and the brown is pretty dark. i cannot get a picture of it. but would love to know what it is. ive looked for a year to find out what it is and cant. The closest thing ive found is a South American Bumblebee Catfish but it really dont look like he pictures of it. please help.

most likely its microglanis iheringi. sorry, i don't know how to post the link, but in the cat-elog under psuedopimelodidae

It might as well be Pseudolaguvia shawi. Check the Cat-eLog in Erethistidae.
Btw: could you inform us about the number of barbels it has or even better: does it have nasal barbels? Furthermore: does it bury itself in the sand/bottom?

those dont look like it because he has a smooth color. its like perfect color bands. no spots.

im really not sure how many barbles he has because he hides constantly and when he comes out hes fast. ive never seen him try hiding in the sand. he hides in a ceramic or glass light house all the time.

Okay, one more try. When I think of a bumble bee coloured catfish without extra dots, spots or whatever, that doesn't bury itself, is pretty nocturnal and is obtainable there's one more that comes to mind: Pseudomystus siamensis. It sits in Bagridae.
However, this one should have grown in two years time.....

A pic is really needed to id this catfish properly.

that one looks closer to it. just mine dont have black. it could just be a different design on it i dunno. but if it was going to grow it should have. its in a big tank and the other fish in it have grown quite a bit. Ive only seen this fish in this tank and ive never once in my life ever seen another like it in a fish store or anywhere else for that matter.

I will TRY to get a picture of it. It might take a day or 2 do to his speed and where he hides. the tank has plenty of cover so its not easy getting a good look at him except the occasional head poking out or his back through a little hole in the lighthouse. when he feeds he comes out extremely fast dows a circle around the tank stopping at each piece of cover then returns to his home.

it will be tough to do but ill see if i can do it.

Well, just take some pictures and take your time to do so. You've been wondering for two years; a couple of weeks more can do no harm

sounds most like the akysis.
they have mildy venemous spines.
I had a few of them that 'dissapeared' in one of my tanks,their camoflage works well, I would not have ever seen them again except for a group of 6 juvinile orange pike cichlids found them, three of them died after attempting to swallow them, spat them out and then took about 15 minutes to gasp to death. Two of the akysis died but the other one sneaked back to his hidden existance.
