No, this isn't S. granulosus. There was a similar post a few weeks back on this species; it seems to be a hybrid :(

This is the post I meant: 150 $ for a hybrid granulosus. It sits in the African Catfishes section; Wed, March 22.

Marc's right; it's a hybrid.

the best way to spot a true "granny" is to look at the fins;
on a true Synodontis granulosus ALL the fins are black (really jet-black on youngsters and very healthy adults), and ALL the fins have a milky-white, almost glowing band on the backside of the fin. this too is more bright in youngsters and healthy adults than in oldies or emaciated fish.

Younsters can have fine spots, but mostly on the posterior (back half) part of the body.
the fins are NEVER spotted in ANY part of the fin!

harder to spot characteristics are the whiskers; long and glowing white too. The headshape; highbuilt head with a steep headprofile and a relative short snout. not a long snout like these hybrids.

the background color of the body varies from a slate grey to a very dark blueish gray even lila sometimes.

But ALL true granny's have ALL fins black and white.
