There are no native catfishes in New Zealand. I think there is introduced channel catfish (
) there, though.

Where you asking about native species, or where you asking what you can buy in the LFS in NZ? There's LOTS of catfish in shops in NZ, just like most other places in the world. It's just that none of them originate from NZ (at least not way back, some may well be bred in NZ).

i'm pretty sure you can. You can get chocolate talking cats that are part of that family(i think) and if you visit

I don't think there are any wild Channel cats. there was an attempt to introduce them as a farmed species but I dont think it ever eventuated.
There are plenty of bullheads (brown bullheads I think ?) in lake Taupo, catch them all the time when fishing for trout at night, they especially like glo in the dark lures.
But there are no native catfish here.
most plecs are available via pet shops but they are fairly expensive compared to North American or European prices.
