I have just picked up two rather nice specimens of A. longifilis at the CSG auction last Sunday, They were originally purchased by the vendor as "Akysis hendricksoni".
But like yours they are Akysis longifilis.

What is the difference then between A.longifilis and A. pictus? Until recently I thought I had A. pictus (which were also sold as A. hendricksoni), but I'm in real doubt right now.

Akysis longifilis used to be labeled A. pictus in the Cat-elog (sorry, my fault). The real is now in the Cat-eLog, and you can see the difference in color pattern.

Okay, that explains it. While we're at it: as I also have A. prashadi I checked there too. How about the third picture of that species? A. longifilis as well?

No, the third picture is correctly identified.

So the colour pattern doesn't always give the identity away? It struck me that pix 1/2/4&5 show nicely banded fish, while pic 3 shows a fish with an A. longifilis pattern (the brown part going from dorsal region to tail in one piece). Perhaps this is a mature specimen?

Except in very few cases, you will find that color pattern is not useful at all in distinguishing Akysis. Many species of Akysis have yellow patches on a brown body that sometimes coalesce to form bands.
