There are three other species of Brachyplatystoma that are most like B. filamentosum, with B. capapretum bearing the closest resemblance. The difference is not necessarily reflected in the local names.

What is B. capapretum? Is it a recent name change? I know of B. vaillanti and B. flavicans. I also heard there is a B. vaillanti/flavicans natural hybrid.
