Got a great deal today...4 new, 1½" Orinocodoras eigenmanni for just $4.99 each....I had to quickly slap a new 5 gallon quarantine tank together when I got them home, but it was well worth it for such a great deal....this brings my total O. eigenmanni collection to 10. Anyone else here keeping this species?

Hi,
I am currently keeping this species, and have between 8 and 10 specimens, which I have picked up as contaminants in with Platydoras costatus. I have been fortunate to find quite a few over the last couple of years, which have become part of the numerous doradid collection in my fish house.

My cousin has 4 (2 pairs).
The males and females are easily separated; one sex has a dark belly, the other a spotted one. Just like Platydoras costatus and Amblydoras hancocki, the sexes can be differented by the belly pattern. I just forgot who got the spotted belly; with Platydoras it's the male who has the black one, and the female has a "white" (dirt-white, not true white). This is fairly obvious when they mature, because the shape gives them away then too (females getting, humongous fat monsters, males are sleeker).
They grow fairly big! We had Orinocodoras eigenmanni before in the past; and the 17 cm size is a LMAO! they get 1 /12 times as big as an adult Platydoras; well able to pass the 1 foot mark. with 8 Orinoco's you'll need a zoo-sized tank in time...

My Orinoco's are currently housed in two tanks 72" x 18" x 18" and 60" x 18" x 18", but will eventually be re-housed within my 12' x 48" x 30" tropical pond. The Orinoco's which are housed in the 72" tank are living with my Platydoras costatus and Agamyxis pectinifrons that I purchased whilst in Peru along with Jools and Clare. I will have to check the sexes of mine and let you know what I have.

Great to see so many keepers here. I have 2.4.4 O. eigenmanni at this point....all of which are between 5-14cm at present. I also have 5.5 P. costatus, and 0.0.10 A pectinifrons.
Any ideas on sexing A. pectinifrons?
