Question about lighting and fish rooms/houses

How many hours a day If any, besides when you go to feed, do you give your Pleco`s lighting in your fish rooms/houses?
As in nature; sunrise to sunset. In other words, about 12 hours a day.
My lights are on timers; one bank of compact florescents come on about 8 a.m., the other bank about 9. In the evening, they reverse.
My fish room lights are on only when I am working on cultures or doing extensive maintanence, but the aquarium lights are on as above.
