I've been coming to the site since I stumbled on it about a year ago doing some web research into building a fish house for some breeding project space and its been a great place to open your eyes to the massive choice of cats out there.

I've been keeping fish for around 15 years now when I caught the fishkeeping bug from my mother. My main interests are keeping and breeding angelfish but with a lack of room I'm not really doing a lot of it right now. I have one tank running at the moment, a 36"x18"x18" tropical with a shoal of 12 angels, 6 cory panda, a bristlenose, a ruby shark and some khuli loaches (last count was 3, I think).

I'm hoping to get some free time to sort a space for a tank rack soon so I can start breeding angelfish again, and in the future I'd like to try my hand with some of the cories and plecs you've introduced me to here - starting with my pandas when they get a bit older.

Maybe you can solve my problem : My angelfish (i have a male and a female) kind of kiss each other for a while, then they clean a large broad leaf, lay eggs, and it seems as though the male fertilizes ( he follows the female after shes layed the eggs)
But, always, the next morning, theyve all gone
Why does this keep happening ( BTW, i dont intend to keep breeding them, i plan to just get them to breed, and then ill sell the babies, and they are in a community tank, so nothing special has been arranged for them)

Angelfish do eat their own eggs if they feel unhappy about something (or just hungry). I think you'll find that you can make the spawn succesful with artifical brood-care, i.e. take the leaf off the plant and stick it with an air-stone (gentle bubbles only) in a breeding net or some such.

I think Angels eat everyone else's eggs too...(especially my Cory's!).

Thanks for the welcome guys, and as a coincidence one of my angel pairs is spawning on the external intake as I'm typing...

MatsP is pretty much spot on, and I haven't found a proven way to stop a pair from eating them if they want to apart from raising them artificially like he suggested. They're a bit like people in some ways, some are great parents, some aren't to start with but get better and some should never be left alone with their kids, once you figure which group your angels are in you can plan how your going to raise the brood.

@Kana3, its funny you mention the angels eating your cory eggs because I've been watching the tank while typing and my pandas are hiding in a clump of java fern near the intake, and everytime the angels break off from spawning to chase the others away they nip in and eat a few eggs .

May have a new proverb there, 'the other guy's eggs always taste better!'
