I just had to share my prize. I got some Liosomadoras morrowi last week and gymnotus (white line). This is the result.

Nice. I like the guy in the pot. I would like to see them in some light to see the full color though.

What species is your Knifefish? Some do get very large and predatory, we have a Sternopygus macrurus at about 1.2 metres which can't be housed with anything else we don't want to vanish...

There are 7 pictures of L. morrowi in the Cat-eLog. Warning: the colours of this species are rather dull, compared to those of L. oncinus.

The knife fish is a rare white line knife http://species.fishindex.com/species_29 ... _fish.html.
I was lucky to find a box from one of the farmers that does yearly runs in Peru.

Here's a link to the catelog False Jag cat.

I don't care if he is bland. It's better then a fish inbred for 3000 years ;)! He's awesome. He was a great find and he makes my tanks just what it needs to be.undefined

Odd. Sternopygus doesn't come from Asia as far as I know. According to fishindex it does. Moreover, the pictures in fishindex show a regular Apteronotus albifrons imo. Anyone?

Fishbase agrees with you, Marc:

Fishbase also says that it grows big... 141 cm - that's almost five foot - so maybe it's the same specie that Pete was talking about.

Yeah we have asked all the contacts we have with no avail. even "AllthingsKnife" didn't have a clue. It is from the Amazon, I can assure you of that.

I thought it was S. macrurus but wasn't totally sure from that view. There are a number of Sternopygus spp. but S. macrurus is the one I see most often. Our local large outlet brought in 5 15" specimens recently, the large one we have is from an importation several years ago.
Once large they can easily badly damage even well-protected catfish, their jaws are extremely strong.
They are certainly neotropical, the information on that site is wrong and the picture is of a Black Ghost (Apteronotus).

Ours is currently about 4', but they have apparently been recorded at a larger size.
