At what size are Bushnose plecos ready to spawn?
Thanks in advance

Mine generally start to breed when they reach appox. 8cm TL.

Whats a bushnose pleco?
Is that Ancistrus sp. "(3)domesticus"?

In NZ Bushynose Pleco is a just a common name for the common Ancistrus sp. so I'm guessing thats what fishpedagogue means.
Cheers, CatBrat.

I think its quite diffucult to tell with these aquarium lines of fishes. My normal Ancistrus sp. "brown" (thats the name used by EVERS/SEIDEL in the Welsatlas trying to establish it in Germany instead of Ancistrus dolichopterus/blue bristlenose which is still in use in most shops here) dont get over 8 cm. Most stay at 6.5-7 cm. So determining breedability by size is imo not a good clue.

Are you using Standard or Total length? Mine are definitely above 8cm total length.
And they will certainly breed at around 5-6 cm SL, if that. They need good feeding to get ready for breeding tho'.

Hi Mats!
This
one is around 7 cm TL. Ive had these for years and no fish ever passed the 7.5 cm TL mark. This is a normal aquarium strain you can buy for 2 euro in the lfs.

I'll have to get Gus out and measure her...
I'm pretty sure she's more than 7cm long [TL], probably more like 9cm or so... I'll report back...

If she's not 10cm long, it's not far off... Photographic evidence [poor photo quality admitted right now - she wasn't exactly agreeing to the process, so I wanted it over quickly...]
