You do not want to miss this one!

The NECâ??s 31st Annual Convention

April 7-9, 2006

Our 31st Convention will be held April 7-9, 2006 at the Marriott Hotel in Farmington, CT. Our theme is, "The NEC's Golden Anniversary," as it was 50 years ago that the NEC was formed to help clubs share information, promote themselves to nearby clubs and generate enthusiasm for the tropical fish hobby. We will celebrate the past and the future of the hobby with the help of many, many speakers this year, as well as the great people who attend!

We are fortunate to have a group of past Movers & Shakers of the aquarium hobby come together Friday night for, "An Evening with the Legends." This idea is Ray (Kingfish) Lucas's brainchild, and he is sponsoring this event with the NEC. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet the following who have contributed so much over their lifetime to the hobby.

Speakers for the 31st Annual Convention

Dr. Sally Boggs has been to the NEC previously and never fails to surprise us with her knowledge and observations of the unusual fish she keeps. From Marine fishes to Loaches, she keeps all the oddballs and this year will talk to us about her experiences with anabantoids.

Claus Christensen has been involved in aquatic plants for almost 30 years. He worked as the manager of Tropica Aquarium Plants in Denmark, one of the foremost producers of aquarium plants in the world, and has complimented his experience by extensively observing aquatic plants in the wild. Mr. Christensen writes regularly for a number of aquarium publications, including Aquarium Heute in Germany. He is a popular speaker at aquarium functions in Europe, and the NEC is pleased to welcome him again to the United States as an expert speaker on aquatic plantlife.

Alan Mark Fletcher was an author and the Associate Editor of the Aquarium Magazine. He made numerous collecting trips to So. America and was honored to correspond with Sir Winston Churchill about fish!

Bob Goemans has spent almost 60 years in the aquarium hobby, is the author of Live Sand Secrets, among other hobby-related books, and is an expert on plenum systems. His website, saltcorner@cs.com is extremely organized and it abounds with information on reef aquariums! He has written for Marine Fish Monthly, Freshwater and Marine Aquariums and Tropical Fish Hobbyist. Although retired, he runs an aquarium and environmental consulting business in his spare time

Ad Konings is known the world over for his expertise on the African Rift Lake fishes and has spoken several times at past NEC convention on the Cichlids of Lake Tanganyika and Lake Malawi. Along with running Cichlid Press and authoring many books on Rift Lake Cichlids, Ad frequents the lakes he loves so well to continue the exploration and collection of the Rift Lake fishes and make his invaluable contributions to the aquarium hobby. We look forward to his return to the NEC to share his recent endeavors with us.

Rosario LaCorte has traveled across the United States and Canada speaking at clubs and conventions and is considered an icon in the aquarium hobby. If you have been to Rosarioâ??s fishroom, you know he has vast expertise, is proud of the fish he has enabled to spawn and he knows all his fish intimately.

Dr. Wayne Leibel has been a welcome friend of the NEC for many, many years. And returns this year to give a new program entitled, â??Waters of the Amazon.â?
