Do only male BN have retracting spines?

i have a male BN (Ancistrus dolichopterus)that has spines that retract from behind its mouth on the side of its head. i have seen only males with them and i have also seen males fight with them over teritory. Do females also have these spines?

To answer the actual question: Yes, both males and females have these Interopercula Odontodes. The bristles on the front of the head is the main distinction between male and female.
