It is also, fairly well recognized that this fish lives a long time and often attains sizes considerably larger than the conservative estimate in the catelog.
It needs a considerable tank in order to do its best, I wouldn't think of keeping an adult specimen in a tank under 100g, (that would include your twelve inch common).

Here's another recent thread on the common pleco.....
http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... hp?t=14252
A search of the forum should give you loads of info.

It's name was recently changed, so search for "Pterygoplichthys pardalis" and "Liposarcus pardalis" as well as "common pleco"

Thaks so much for your help - the link offers alot on insite as to WHO is uprooting my plants (lol)
the only concern is it seems like he would like it to be cooler then my current temp. which is 78-80 degress F
and his size is 12 inches and it says they get about 10 - or is this about as big as he will get or should i expect more growth?

I think the point about almost all measures in the Cat-eLog is that it's based on scientific reports, which means that it's often wrong. I agree that it's misleading, and it may be a good idea to have two measures: "Scientific" and "Common" measures... Or something... ?racoll wrote:Yes your fish will be fine at that temp. The common plec is very hardy. The cat-elog info should be updated, as it is a bit misleading. This fish can reach 2 feet in length.
