Syno sizes

Post by Birger »

Cat-eLog does not have sizes for these two so am looking for opinions if fishbase sizes would be correct:

S.caudalis---------20.4 cm
S.ornatipinnis-----40.0 cm

I am looking at groups of these as well as S.brichardi(this is a definate) for purchase.

thanks,Birger

Hi,

I cannot tell you if FishBase meaqures are correct, but Poll (1971) gives the following:

S. caudalis: 204 mm maximum total length, 145 mm maximum standard length

S. ornatipinnis: 220 maximum total length, 170 mm maximum standard length

Hi Birger:

If you happen to locate a source of S. brichardi please drop me a line. I have been trying to get some for a while, but without success. See my thread in Catfish wanted/for sale. Thanks!

I'd be careful on the IDs of the 2 Synos you ask about. These are 2 that are hybridized by the Czechs. The telltale sign will be the price. The real ornatapinnis would be probably at least $200 if not more.
