Yesterday I saw this beautiful fish in the local fish store. I wanted to search for some information about it; but that is really difficult i think. Can anybody tell me more about this fish? It isn't in the cat-e-log i think

Is it such a rare species or did the shop use a wrong name?

No, they're not the ones I saw. The fish in the shop seemed of the Hemiloricaria species. I think the Hemiloricaria Fallax comes close to it, but the species I saw had a lighter skincolor and a little different pattern.

The species with the name Rhineloricaria filamentosa does not exist. At fist the genus name is Rineloricaria. The genus Rineloricaria and Hemiloricaria do not have a valid species callad R./H.filamentosa. Just two species with the name filamentosa are valid. One of both Silurus had postet. The other species is Dasyloricaria filamentosa wich can be compared with typical species of the genus Rineloricaria. But all Dasyloricaria-species reach a size up to 30cm. And also the species of this genus are not commercial exportet up to now.
Often the whiptails were offered with the name Rineloricaria filamentosa are Hemiloricaria lanceolata, nothing else.
If you tell that the whiptails are similar to H.fallax it could also be that they are H.eigenmanni, H.wolfei or just one of the many undiscribed species.

thank you for your reply. I checked the other Hemiloricaria species in the Cat-elog and I don't think that the species that I have seen exists on the website.

I think I go get 2 pair of them next saturday. I'll try to make a picture of them and post it here; so that anybody can look on it to see if he/she recognises the species.

I think you cannot go wrong if you do it this way.
But if we can tell you the species is an other question.
Mostly the whiptials just divide in little details.
The best would it be if you ask your dealer for the habitat where they were catched if they are wildcaughts.
If they are breedings it can be very hard to get the right species.
But let us wait up for the photos. Then we will see.

Today I bought 4 Hemiloricaria Fallax (according to the paper on the shop's tank). First the plan was, that I buy the species I talked in this topic before; but then I saw the Fallax at a shop that is closer to my hometown. And I think the h. fallax is more beautiful than the unknow species from the other shop, so I bought this.

I'll post some phote's later this week, because I'm not very sure about the knowledge of the shop.

Being a fellow-dutchman I'm a bit curious at which LFS you have found the mentioned species??

And, naturally, I'm also very curious about the photo's!!
