Hi all,
This lovely little catfish was sold to a friend 8 months ago as an otoniclus. The fish was at the time about 4cm and is now 6cm. He is in a tank with a ph of 6,5 and kh/gh 3/6. He is usually resting or munching on wood but he also feasts on algae. He absolutely adores veggie tables. Can you help us identify him?
I am attaching two pics, one ventral view and one side view. Thanks

Thanks for the response Silurus. Hypostomus is one of the species we considered but we found some differences in the hight of the dorsal fin, the size and shape of the head and of course his belly, which in Hypostomus is spotted and coloured. His lips look very fleshy for an Hypostomus too. Do you think the differences are due to his young age?

I see the large lips as a sign that:

1. it is a young fish

2. it is a member of the H. cochliodon group.
