In my opinion they are the best! they cost more but are well worth it. Other RO units produce on average of 3 gallons of waste water to 1 gallon of good, that's a lot of water going down the drain. This one makes no waste water.

As electroplater I know:
RO unites can only work when much (waste) water flowes out
If the dirt don`t come out the membran is going to get dameged/blocked

The unit in the link is not a RO unit. It's a filter for certain type of compounds, but it doesn't quite do the same thing as an RO filter, because the RO filter will remove dissolved ion's in the water, which from what I understand, this filter does not. It's probably a good filter for removing things that harm fish, but if you have hard water and want soft water out the other side of the filter, this isn't the right product. At least, that's how I understand what the marketing blurb says. If you're really thinking of buying one of these to create soft water, I'd definitely ask their customer support to clarify.
In fact, here's a link that proves that they do _NOT_ remove hardness from water:

They claim to remove more of the "harmfull" stuff instead, which is fine, but that's not why I would buy an RO filter... In essence, I wouldn't buy this filter for my fishes, unless I had soft water that contained lots of other pollutants... And I have hard water, which is otherwise pretty good...

The Kold-Ster-il is akin to something I'd specify for a restaurant. The flow is extremely high but the water quality isn't as refined as RO water. It'll remove impurities that contaminate drinking water, but, as others in this posting have stated, it won't soften the water. The true benefit is no waste water. If you do purchase this item, I would recommend having it professionally installed. If I may make a suggestion, you could go to a restaurant supply outlet and find a similar filter for half the price. Please ask for names like Cuno, Everpure or equal. You'll sound like a pro! No RO membrane, but huge output and no wastewater.
