A bit of a long shot, but this is a fishy question, so i thought i'd air it here!
are there any deep sea fish fans in the house?
i'm in love with all those deep sea guys, and i was wondering if anyone had any good websites or books they could recommend?

i saw a promising book on amazon, but it was about seventy pounds...
i worry i'll either be stuck with a marine biologist's text book, or a kiddie picture book...

Deep sea fishes are a pretty esoteric subject, even for an ichthyologist. The vast majority of the books available on this subject (I would venture to say all of the books, but I'm not 100% sure) are either scientific in nature, or for kids.
AFAIK, there are nontechnical (and non-childrens') books available solely on deep-sea fishes.

That website was given to me in a fish biology course and covers the Coelocanth which occurs in deeper water and was fascinating in its own right.

I had a professor who was fascinated with deep sea fishes, but most of the info we covered on them was in fisheries textbooks- probably not QUITE what you are looking for?

to be honest, i would really just like some good photos, and more information on the fish themselves.
thanks for the link!

there was a very good website from australia with the latest pictures of the results of trawls/ submersibles.
what got me wet was seeing a book one of the scientists had open with a picture of a grenadier in it; it was just like any tropical fish book with length/ requirements in it, but with deep sea fish!
oh, to have that book

Check out the Monterey Aquarium's web page; two years ago, in my marine biology class, I did a diarama of the deep ocean, and that page had several nice photos.
