I recently purchased 4 of these. 2 of them has got the white edges on the dorsal and tail fin and 2 of them not. Is this normal for some of them to lack these white edges.

I also introduced them to cucumber this weekend as they do not want to eat the algea and catfish tablets I offer to my Syno's. What else is there that I can offer them seeing that I like to give my fish a variety of foods.

I think all A. Dolichopterus should have SOME white on the tail, but different ages may have samller or larger amounts.

Pretty much any vegetable that is reasonably soft (and these guys will chew much harder things than you'd think) is goint to work. Raw potato is quite easily eaten by some of my Ancistrus sp(3), for example.

I don't think those two pictures are of the same specie. The one with a white stripe on the tail is almost certainly .

The first picture, doesn't look right for A. Dolichopterus, but maybe it could be . Although I don't know if that is a match or not, there are a few other white-spotted Ancistrus species that may be the right one...

If you plan on breeding these fish, please make sure that you don't cross the striped one with the un-striped one, as even if they ARE the same specie, they are variants. I believe (almost) everyone agrees that we should not mix different variants when breeding these... If they aren't the same specie, then you'd cross up a hybrid, and that's definitely not good...

I am all against cross breeding of fish. I am not interested in breeding these babies. They are just there to watch and get lots of love from me.
