Now I'm really confused,
A little while back I posted a thread re a white BN with black eyes (http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... highlight=) which was identified as L144.
pic below.



however I have had a look at the same individual after a while in a different tank and the colour has changed totally. she is a lot darker now but has retained a pinkish hue unlike a normal BN. The tank is a lot darker and has more wood but has the same light substrate.



Does anybody know what she is now? The closest thing I can find is a "piebald" ancistrus but never having seen one, I dont know if this species would be capable of such dramatic colour changes.

could it be a chaetestoma of some type

I don't think it's a Chaetostoma, as they have slightly broader head in proportion to the body. This one's body shape is identical to my , so I would say that it's a female/juvenile Ancistrus, but as to the specie, I don't know.

Almost all Loricariidae have the ability to change theoir coloration to some extent during stress or other conditions.

I agree with MatsP, definitely not a Chaetosoma as aside from the shape, here in Oz we would likely be paying upo to $400 retail for one. Therfore nobody would have any problems keeping tabs on the name of a fish of this worth, and they certainly wouldnt sell it to a LFS as an unknown species.

I suspect what we call a normal BN is Ancistrus sp(3)and yes it has exactly the same shape, just different colour patterns.

I thought Ancistrus sp(2) as well but Im not sure given the dramatic white colour in the first photo.

Any further ideas considering the colour change?

They look more similar to the piebald Ancistrus, even if they seems more "white pink" than "yellow orange"!!!

I think as well if your read the Ingo Seidel article in Shane's World that he mention if you cross albino BNs with piebalds, you get this effect in some cases.
