Hello!

My LDA-9 (Hypostomus mutucae), as pictured on this page and still very much alive, has grown considerably larger than 70 mm. More like 150+ mm.

Hi!

The information for that species were taken directly from the original description. The biggest specimen used for the description wasn't bigger than the 70mm SL!!

Hi

The Hypostomus on your pictures is not Hypostomus mutucae !! It shows a Hypostomus sp. L 233.

I will update the page, but what differentiates L233 (or L223 as it maybe should be known as this is the lower number) from LDA09? It also appears close to LDA10 for that matter, although in LDA10 the spots look smaller on the head.

I'm happy to change the identification if I have a little detail to back it up.

Also, is this pic the same too?

OK, so after André's help (esp. in supplying the detail from a DATZ article he wrote on the subject), I have changed these fish around.

Basically, LDA09=LDA223=L233, the all-over big spot species. LDA10=H. mutucae which has small spots on the head and larger ones on the body. While these are not the only characterisitics, they're the easiest ones to use when working with photos!

Many thanks to André, I look forward to continued review of the l-numbers here at Planet - it's going to be a long hard slog!

BTW, Michael, more pics of your fish would be welcome!
