The turusuquki cats I found at Lfs are Nigers. Is $40.00 (us)a good price for a healthy 5inch fish?I guess it must be a good price because they don't seem to come around often..

40 bucks would be a good price for someone who has a tank big enough to keep one without dumping him into a ditch when he grows up to 2.5 ft long

Fair price,
but these fish need minimum tank size of 450 (UK) gallons,
I would urge anyone that can not supply this size aquaria and adequate filtration for it, please leave well alone , no matter what the price is. No one would dream of buying a Bull mastiff puppy and then expecting it to live its entire life in a kennel built for a cairn terrier.

I have more than enough tank and pond space when needed. or I wouldn't even consider buying him..I think it's very selfish to buy a fish just to cram him in 1 10th the space he needs.Just so you can say you have him! I just wish more people would think of space requirements BEFORE they buy.

The problem is most people go to a pet store to buy fish cause they think that its easy to take care of them since they live in a small area of there house. At the same time they know absolutly nothing about fish and usually the pet store knows just enough to get the customer to buy stuff. They don't know anything about the fish themselves and how big they get or what thype of water conditions they should live in.(Unless the store specializes in aquatic life, which is the type of store I go to.)

For example:

This one pet store was selling African Dwarf Frogs(Which dont get much bigger than 2inchs.) When in fact they were African Clawed Frogs.(Which can grow to be about 7inches long and 5inch wide.) These frogs will eat anything that comes by there mouth.

So these nice customers come and buy some guppies/neons or anything small or young and buys one of the frogs. A couple months later the Frog is 4 times the sized the store said it would get and there aren't many fish left in the tank.

I made the second part of this story up but I guarantee it is true.

I tried to tell the store this but there were to stupid or erogant to believe me even though I showed them the claws that were on the frogs. :ang:
