HAHA! Do you have any idea how long I've been wondering when someone might bring that up?

Ok here's a hint, check my join date.. ;)

Anyway us folks here in SAGINAW have precious few good things to say about our town, so alot of us use derogatory nicknames to describe it...the most popular being Sag-nasty!

As for Mittenstate, that should be easy since I don't mean Saginaw, TX...hehe

To people from the US it will be an obscure but possibly solveable riddle. To people NOT from the US, I think it might be impossibly obscure. The location helps all of us give the best advice we can, based on where you're from, but I do realize that it was all just an attempt at light hearted humor and not meant to be problematic ;).

A few years ago, this would've been lost on me, but the shape of the state says it all.

I can see why people aren't "proud" of it:
City-data.com crime index = 868.9 (higher means more crime, US average = 330.6)
[Found on this web-site.

At first, I thought it was German. I'm always a little slow on the uptake! Saginaw, Michigan.

To anybody that doesn't live it the Mittensate, it's a little confusing. I only say this because it was drilled into our heads since preschool that our state resembles a mitten. Also, anybody that has never been to MI would never have a clue as to where or what Saginaw is. It's a creative way to say where to are from though, I like it. Mitten represent.

Well it took this long, and I'm satisfied with that.. :foggie:

But since folks have now asked, I'll be more than happy to adjust it's accuracy...especially since it almost seems that you could mistake it for something German!

In German state is written Staat so no German thought it is in Germany, but mitten is middle. And the townname Saginaw is not nearly German.
   Could it be that you hate Germany, seems so.

relax, they're making fun of michigan not germany. to a lay person mittenstate sounds mildly german. there was no offense to germany intended. those of us in michigan just have a sense of humor about ourselves and our state. it's cool, really....
