I have a golden nugget 7 cm which I introduced to the aquarium two days a go. It is mostly a CICHLID aquarium( 16 ). The problem is that whatever food I give ( pl*co pellets or frozen peas ) that is meant for the catfish is eaten immediatly by the CICHLIDS. I am worried that the golden nugget will starve

try putting in blood worm after lights out the way he stands a better chance of getting some also mine love zucchini put a bit of that in c*****ds will not touch that...

It is to my knowledge that baryancistrus are quite tricky to acclimate. If at all possible, I would section off the tank, utilizing those ridiculously expensive tank dividers to alott a small area of the tank (relocation is another option, but the added stress does not exactly ease the situation), leaving your gold nugget as the sole inhabitant of said sectioned off area. This method has aided me in nuturing back into prime condition several persistent fasters.

In my 90 gallon I have several large african cichlids and I would agree the best way to feed your plecos is at night with the lights off. I usually put in a few algae wafers and some shrimp pellets and then on occasion I use a piece of cucumber with a weight added so it sinks to the bottom. The cichlids will eat everything but the cucumber. But if the lights are off it gives the pleco's chance to eat the food the cichlids missed.

ARMW- how do you feed the zucchini . Do you blanch before. Do you keep it frozen? I can not put blood worms as I also have tropheous.

I see there is no wonder solution.

I was having the same problem with my SF gibby, he has only started eating after 4.5 days now that he has established his own little territory under a rock. Although he will only eat and defend in his little cave and wont come out yet. he is in with two large hoplo's that guts every scrap of food. I had to re-arrange the tank so he had his own little space and then put his food in there so he would defend it.

Bear in mind that Baryancistrus are more carnivore than herbivore, so meaty food is a good idea, blood worms, Mysis shrimps, chopped mussels or shrimps/prawns [addmittedly may be more difficult to find in Israel than in other countries, as I believe these are not "kosher"], chopped fish, etc.

Also good idea is to feed after dark when you have greedy other fish in there. I think you can feed bloodworms at night, even if you have tropheus in the tank [in fact, even if the tropheus eat SOME bloodworm, I'm sure they'll be fine, but may get bloat if you give them LOTS of bloodworm daily].

If you want to feed zucchini, I wouldn't think you need to boil it for a 7cm fish, it should be able to chew the zucchini as it is. Baby bristlenoses are able to eat raw zucchini at about 2cm...

Hi marice what I do is half down the centre so they can get to the flesh inside strap it to a rock with a rubberband & pop it in after dark ...(':P')
