You could certainly have more than 5, probably more than 20 too if you wanted, but it depends on what else you have in the tank.

Clean-up is of course a bit of a "definiton", because anything that goes into the tank (food-wise, or more precisely any protein in the food) will turn into ammonia->nitrite->nitrate.

Ok, I didn't see that because I only thought about asking when I was in the middle of writing the reply, and when replying, you don't see sig's. [That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it...]

1 x 12" fire eel,7 x red torpedo's,4 x dwarf gouramies,2 x rainbows,3 x bolivian rams.

With that stocking, I think you can run anything from 5 to 10 cory's or more, if you like.

I don't know what sort of fish a fire-eel is [I have seen them in the shops, but I don't know anything about them], does it eat other fish, or not? If it does, you need to make sure that that your cories are big enough to not be eaten by the fire-eel, now or later when the fire-eel is bigger [if it's getting bigger than that]. Most cories will grow to 2" and a bit (SL), but usually not much bigger than that.

Sterbai are nice, and like warm water, which I expect you have for the gourami's.

I just bought a few sterbai's myself, and they are nice. A bit pricey compared to the more common cory's, but look more stunning too, so as usual, you get what you pay for. I got 6 myself.

6 is a decent number, should give you good chances of a female/male mix that could give you breeding (I'm assuming you can't pick sex because they are still juveniles and hard to sex). Seems like a much better price than I got mine for, but I guess trimar is pretty good when it comes to pricing...

Good luck with them. I just moved mine (moving house), and they seem to have coped well with the stress, eating nicely and such.
