Synodontis decorus

I went into a LFS today and saw an interesting sight. Someone had traded in a large group of Synos he'd had 20+ years. What was interesting was the 2 decorus. They were 10-11 inches, and one had the typical markings. The other one was interesting- dorsal and caudal had typical striping along with dorsal extension. The odd thing was the body was solid gray. Doubt it was a hybrid- over 20 years old. Only thing I could think of was maybe a sexual difference. Tell me your thoughts.
