quick question: I was under the impression that C. trilineatus is commercially bred. Is this true, or are most of them wild caught?
thanks

I would say that most are exported from the wild, I do not know of any wholesaler that is able to import them from either Thailand or Singapore.

My first Cory species & breed as well is Trilineatus.
When I talk to the LFS, the impression i had that time it was from Malaysia farm. I could be wrong ... as it happen few years back.

I wonder where I got the idea that they were commercially bred? I will ask the store and see if they know. they are fairly large, so thats probably a good indication that they aren't farm raised.
thanks for the replies

Bred by the millions in Asia and marketed as "C julii". Cheap as chips here.
Very rarely are 'real' C julii available here and when they are they are as expensive as all get out !!

A google search produced
this and
this.
Unequivocal evidence that they are being bred in farms.

hmm, now I wonder whether mine are farm raised or wild? Usually the farm raised corys such as aeneus and paleatus are quite small. My trilineatus' are much bigger.
I guess i will just have to ask the store to see if they know
thanks everyone for their input

Certainly Trilineatus are being commercially bred in Asia and are being widely circulated.
At present we ( as a retailer ) are obtaining small ones and medium sized fish but at the same time wild caught adults are still being imported .
We have been obtaining the farm bred fish for about 18 months.
