My L-200 was completely stuck in my small pleco cave

I was out of town for a couple days and when I came back I notice my L-200 had managed to squeeze into the smallest of the pleco caves.
There are several in the tank of various sizes, all made out of clay. Why he chose that one, I'll never know...
I noticed that he looked like he was struggling to move, so I picked up the cave and he had wedged himself in there pretty well.
I placed the cave back into the water and watched for a little longer. Nope, he was definitely stuck. My boyfriend had to break the cave to get him out.
The plec had scraped the end of his nose, which is barely noticeable, and he broke the spine of his dorsal fin. It's broken about a third of the way down.
I've tried catching him, but he's a fast one, and it's a planted tank with lots of driftwood, so he's hiding from me now.
He's still been eating and all. I've just been adding Melafix to the tank.
It's kinda sad, cause he had such a nice shark-fin.
Should I be doing anything else?
