Got some good pics recently of my fish in various tanks hope you like them ...some were still a bit camera shy ...

Beautiful fish. I like all of them. A thought in all the pictures I saw 7 L numbers. Is this correct.

Hypancistrus sp(L66)

There is no L66 .... ?

I sure hope they grow that big .... I have lots of tanks that one is 900 litres

If that isn't an L66, then what Hypancistrus is that in the last picture

I think that the 2 pictures of the royal swimming in front of the plants are beautiful

It does look like a L333 more than a L66. The stripes are a bit thicker.

That's an L-66. The eyes are too far back for L-333.

Amazing, Taksan! I would imagine that this is the seven foot tank? What kind of filtration do you have on that tank?

Might I request that you establish a reason as to why you believe your fish is an L-333 other than "ummmmm"?

Go to the catelog and compare photos. L066 stripes are thinner than his fish, L333 stripes are identical to his.

Not necessarily, though. Consider the photos johnny jensen took, and the rightmost picture on the second row. Then compare them to the "adult male" L-66, and the photo taken by richard williams (among others). They are interchangable in regards to stripe width, and in some cases, the L-66's are wider

The stripes are about the same width as two of my own L-66. However, the patterning does not, at least in my opinion, look anything like L-333. I would observe the head and body structure more closely as an indication of species. The elongated body, the shape of the head, and the patterning in general leads me to assume this is an L-66.

The L333's got more yellow coloring. I have one of each L066 & L333 in my tank. My L333's a female, I believe. My L066 is also younger, still growing, so it's super easy for me to see the difference right now.

Which goes to show that you can't tell anything about the shape of the head from that angle and depth of field.
Its a L333 .....I have L66's and they are a different fish.

I agree, after waiting forever for the pics in question to load, they're not great ones for differentiating between L333 & L066.

IMO, the line of sight taken in the shot is fairly indicative of the eye distance, but I suppose to each man his own.

I don't see how eye distance is a good criteria for differentiating between these two very similar fish. There are a couple of good head shots of both species on the Cat-elog and I can't see this distance thing you're talking about. Are we talking a few mm? Every species has that kind of variation.

I've look at both the eyes of my fish and they look very similar, too.

Both are undescribed, so there's no official way to tell them apart. It's all going to be based on the pattern of the adult fish.

I must say, though, your L-333 does look more like an L-66 to me, though I can't be sure.
