I have seen a fish I am almost certain is really the "Mother of Snails" catfish (Pseudodoras niger) called a sturgeon in a Local Fish Store. Is it possible this is the fish you mean?

No, they are not. They don't belong to Siluriformes (Catfish) order, but Acipenseriformes.
