Moving fish to new tank

I'm sorry about the dumb question, but what is the best way to move a pleco to a new, improved, bigger tank? It is hand tame and very friendly, but I don't trust myself to pick it up. Should I find a local expert to do it for me? Last time we moved to a new home, we caught it with a net and that was a real disaster (armor got entangled, fish got stressed out.)
Thank you very much!!!

How large is the fish/what species? When I catch larger species, I usually place a 2-3 gallon plastic tank (the ones generally used for betta sp., and god forbid, goldfish) on one side of the tank, and just shepard the fish in question into it. In fact, in an attempt to flee from my hand, they will often swim right into it.

I bought a 1 gallon plastic pitcher that I use to move all my larger plecos and even my smaller spiny catfish.
I just removed the sticker label and rinsed it rather well.
Good luck.
