One of the rarer species. This was among my new acquisitions. Hopefully this one won't grow too quick.

That is the oddest, most beautiful, strange bagrid I have seen. I wonder what the adaptive signifigence of the heavy barbels is. How large do they get?

Bagarius is not a bagrid...it's a sisorid. Many sisorids have a flap of skin on the posterior edge of the maxillary barbel, probably to assist the fish in holding the barbels out against the current. This species will grow to 70 cm SL (that's 28").

Thanks for the clarification. The support for current seems a plausible explaination.

Its been 8 months.... how fast has it grown? I just had a B. yarelli shipped in and is currently alone in a 125g. Im wondering how long until he needs to go in my 240 or 400.
