Unknown fish

There's a fish at the LFS. A very tiny (1" long) thin Farlowella or whiptail type catfish. It's crimson in color and called red fire fox? I can't find any info and neither can the LFS. Any info would be appreciated.

I'll buy the fish and post up pics of it.

I'm 95% sure that is what it is. Kinda ironic, I just found it browsing the catE-log right before coming back to post that I found it. Thanks for the quick reply.

They are, or at least were; I bought one at Shirley Aquatics in Birmingham about three years ago. I was a bit suspicious about the colour, but it turned out to be for real. They were sold as Red whiptails.

Yep, you should be able to get them if you have a Maidenhead Aquatics near where you live (at least they've got them in some of their branches).

Also, I think http://www.trimar.co.uk may have them (not sure, and I haven't checked).

You may also check with your LFS if they can get some. Most fish-shops have a wholesaler or two that stock MUCH more fish than the local shop carries. So if you ask them, they can usually get some of what you want in when they order in new stock next time. Obviously, if their wholesaler(s) doesn't have what you want, then you have to go to another shop.

For certain, they are imported to England.

Nice addition! I've kept my L010a for around 3 yrs now. Lovely addition to any tank. Peaceful whiptail but oftens like's there own territory with similar species. Here's mine now.

sorry to say the fish died. I haven't a clue why.

thanks for the pic graeme, what temp do you keep your water? I also have plants and guppies in the same tank. He seemed fine for a few days, and was very active. Then last monday, he just died. Dont' know if there was an ongoing stress in the tank. I had the temp set to 77 degrees, tried to bring it up to 80 slowly overnight but he was dead by the morning. I'll try to get another, but am worried this one will die also.
