Breeding Leporacanthicus joselimai (L314) ?

I have set up a fast moving blackwater tank with the hope of keeping some of the smaller lorricara. The tank is 4'x2'x2' and have been filled with a mass of bog wood and curio wood. I have been able to get two L314 so far and am looking out for more, this is along with a few gold nuggets and galaxias. I have made sure that there are adequate caves and crevices to allow for any territorial issues. I was wondering if anyone has been able to breed l314 and whether they could make any suggestions regarding sexing, groups sizes, tank set up or tank mates. Other than those mentioned there is a small shoal of denisoni barbs and congo tetras as dither fish and some colour. Any help is appreciated.

Yes they have been bred, only recently and I only know of one person having accomplished it.
He has had more than one spawn however.

Do you have any more info to add to that or is that your total knowledge of the subject at hand; edifying as it is?

It's the same for all
Hypancistrus, I don't think the black water is a good idea. pH not lower than 6.8 for reproduction I would suggest.

Search the forums with L-264 instead of L-314. I detailed a spawn. Subsequent to that, they were conditioned again, and spawned while I was away on a surprise business trip. When I returned, the male was sitting on a clutch, but when I went down the next morning morning to remove the eggs, the male had already taken care of it. Will probably try again next week or so.
Janne has also worked with this guy, similar results.

Sorry, I was responding to L316 as opposed to L314 - got my numbers mixed up.

Actually, I was referring to L-314/L-263... Not L-264.
The details of the spawning of L-263 are due to be published by the aquarist in a german magazine (despite the fact the spawns occured here in the U.S.) so I shouldn't give too many details.
I can give this much;
The spawning was very typical for an Ancistrine pleco...
Also, not in "blackwater". Do a search for the Biogeography of the Rio Tapajos. That'll give you the conditions these fish are adapted to.

What are the identifying differences between 263/264/314? These are all sold as Sultan/Snow Leopard, and usually with quite a bit of variation in the batch. Net search says both 263/264 are collected from Rio Tapajos, with 314 from Rio Curua Una, is this accurate?

I was under the impression that L-314 and L-263 were the same fish (but I clearly could be wrong here). But that these are collected near the Rio Tapajos in the Rio Jamanxim. L-264 is clearly a different different fish, both in size and coloration.
Snipped from my pricelist:
L-263 Leporacanthicus sp. aff. joselimai. Like the L-264s also from the Rio Tapajos region. These typically only arrive as contaminants in shipments of L-264s.
They are a smaller fish with fewer, more distinct round spots on a ruddy-tan base color. They are among the smallest of the Leporacanthicus, and max-out at about 5รข?

Actually in looking at the Transfish Site. L-314 and L-263 are not the same.

Assuming Transfish is correct, I also think some of the Cat-ELog photos listed under L-314 are L-263.

I'll send Jools a shot of L-263 for clarification.

The guys at Transfish are about to help me review all the l-numbers on the site; I just need to get some time to work through them all with them.
Anyway, stick something in the bugs forum for this specific l-number.

Hi!
AFAIK, the spawn of L264 happened in a 400liters tanks, female was 16-18cm male as well. Cave spawner. Water was around the neutral. Tank set up was as Jools said like what has been done for Hypancistrus!!!
Cheers

When they say "contaminants", does this mean specimens that got in accidentally with other fish?

Yes that is what they mean. The boxes arrive labeled as L-264.

From this discussion I think that a truer identity of the species that I have obtained in the l264 although the 314 do appear to be v similar. The closest photo that i can find on log here is the last small photo on the 264 page.
I have been able to order 3 more to add to the three that I already have, I figure this should give me a fair chance of a pair. I have come away from the blackwater as suggested ( thanks for that ) but kept the large number of caves along with plenty of wood. Ph is stable around 7.3 and temp at 76.
In the light of the fish likely being l 264 please keep any further info coming please and I appreciate all the help with this one. Stunning little fish.[/img]
Take a look at
THIS FISH. This is one of the photos I mentioned may be mislabeled as L-314. I believe this is actually L-263.
In fact, I think Johney Jensen's whole series of shots of
L. cf. joselimai are of L-263, not L-314.
