Corydoras Identification

Post by sirbooks »

I rescued a lonely cory from work this weekend. It had been brought in by a customer, and there were no similar cories in the store that could serve as companions. Though I don't have any of the same species either, I figured that the fish would be treated better in my tank than at work or with a clueless customer, so I brought the poor thing home. This cory is two and three quarter inches from snout to tail, a monster! It is settling in well already, and seems to appreciate its new home.

Anyways, I can't figure out which species it is. There are many lookalikes in the Cat-e-Log, but I can't find one that matches exactly. It looks most similar to C. leucomelas and C. brevirostris, but they are *just* off. Can anyone help me get a handle on this? I really appreciate it.
